DocBase

Designing and producing business documents involves a series of steps. Once a document template has been designed using Assentis:DocDesign, business documents are then normally published in high volumes using Assentis:DocBase. The center-piece of Assentis:DocBase is a process engine that manages the entire document publishing and printing environment.

Assentis:DocBase acquires different input data, and if necessary converts it to XML. This unique aspect of Assentis:DocBase enables it to process a variety of different input data formats from multiple sources such as RDBMS, flat files, SAP, and many others.

Next Assentis:DocBase prepares document layout definitions and input data for the rendering process. It converts and merges document fragments with document definitions (XSL-FO). During the formatting phase, Assentis:DocBase renders document definitions based on an "Intermediate Format" into PDF, PostScript, AFP, PCL, RTF or XHTML.

Finally, Assentis:DocBase sends rendered documents to a printing infrastructure, or e-mails them to a receiver, or prepares and sends documents to an archive or even to a different business application. On request, print data streams are split and re-organized according to predefined or instantly defined criteria. Logging and accounting functions ensure that the whole document production cycle is
comprehensively recorded.

Assentis:DocBase is a modern, flexible and easily integratable server component. It is based on open standards like XML, XSL and Java 2 Enterprise Edition. Assentis:DocBase runs in a Tomcat or in a J2EE application server. Formatting and rendering processes can therefore be distributed on different servers and run in parallel in order to manage even very large printing volumes efficiently.
